The AI conductor: machine learning on machine learning by Veritone Access AI
Veritone, a company which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to gain actionable insights from unstructured data like video and audio, announced last week that their system, Conductor, is operating at 82% accuracy, as opposed to the previous best of 75%. This success may herald a new dawn for Veritone, who announced their concerns over whether they may ever achieve or sustain profitability in May this year. Chad Steelberg, Veritone founder and CEO, has focused on investing in an AI platform and moved away from Veritone's media buying and placement business, traditionally seen as more lucrative. Developers told Access-AI that Veritone's improvements are due to Conductor, a technology which acts as a kind of managing editor, optimising the results of the 70 third-party engines that form the Veritone platform, in a seemingly unique instance of machine learning (ML) being applied to machine learning. The screenshot below shows an example of Veritone collecting instances of media figure Emily Chang.
The Key to AI's Future: One Startup's Quest for Collaboration
With thousands of artificial intelligence solutions available to apply to a myriad of business functions, the issue for enterprises seeking to innovate with AI is not that the market doesn't have options -- it's that there are too many, creating confusion on which technologies provide actual business value, and which are better in theory than in practice. Today, the AI tech ecosystem is awash with narrow AI solutions, cognitive engines built to perform one task well - engines in categories like natural language processing, image recognition and facial detection. According to Gartner, "Small, unconstrained market players specializing in AI core technologies will cause sporadic business disruption in the near future. In the long term, the main disruptive effect of AI core technologies will arise through revolutionary business ideas enabled by those technologies." Veritone, a recent IPO out of Costa Mesa, Calif., caught my attention as one such business, grasping the idea that many AI brains are better than one when used together to solve business problems.
Vievu and Veritone to Bring Artificial Intelligence to LE Audio and Video Data
The Safariland Group ("Safariland"), the parent company of Vievu, and Veritone, a leading provider of artificial intelligence solutions, have announced their intent to enter into an agreement to integrate their product offerings to apply artificial intelligence to uniquely extract and process crucial data from police body-worn camera footage. The Veritone Platform will be available to Safariland's law enforcement agency customers as a complement to Vievu's body-worn cameras, accessories and software, later this year. The integration is designed to allow Vievu's customers to upload large volumes of video and audio recordings into the Veritone Platform and process them in near real-time, enabling law enforcement personnel to rapidly extract actionable information for use in investigations, monitoring and training, as well as to respond more quickly and efficiently to public record requests. "The Veritone Platform will enable law enforcement agencies to save thousands of hours of manual searching by using intelligent audio and video analysis, allowing them to focus time and resources on more mission-critical tasks," said Chad Steelberg, chief executive officer of Veritone. "The Veritone Platform uses more than 40 best-of-breed cognitive engines, ranging from transcription and face recognition to sentiment analysis to object recognition, which will provide Vievu's users the ability to derive comprehensive, actionable insights from their body camera footage in near real-time. Importantly, we have long admired Vievu's products and its dedication to innovation, and we look forward to working together to advance public safety with artificial intelligence technology."
